Congratulations to TMA Systems’ CEO John Smith for being recognized by Tulsa People Magazine as one of the Tulsans of the Year for 2018 and visionaries of the Gathering Place in Tulsa Oklahoma.
Nearly 80 donors, a mix of corporate and philanthropic Tulsa organizations, have joined the George Kaiser Family Foundation to contribute $450 million to create and endow the Gathering Place.
A project of George Kaiser Family Foundation, the Gathering Place will transform nearly 100 acres of Tulsa’s waterfront along the Arkansas River into a dynamic and active space, blending nature with an urban setting and providing Tulsans and visitors more space to play, relax and gather together along the river. The park, centrally located, will include features such as a lodge, boathouse, nature walks, two land bridges connecting the two sides of river parks, sporting areas, and a pond.
From the five-acre Adventure Playground to Mist Mountain, sport courts, bike and skate parks, nature trails, and large lawns for concerts, the Gathering Place will provide activities for the entire family to enjoy. It is estimated that the park will attract one million visitors annually.
The donors’ collective gift is the largest to a municipality in the history of the United States. The second biggest gift was $100 million for New York City’s Central Park in 2012. The property has been under construction for three years and was designed by renowned landscape architect Michael Van Valkenburgh Associates.
